Something deep inside me told me I could change my life with better food choices, but I felt like I was guessing my way through the process and seeing little to no results.

- I was also growing increasingly frustrated with my failed attempts to get pregnant.
All this added up to living under a gray cloud and faking my way through each day.
Add to that the fact that I kept making and breaking food rules with myself. The more I learned about nutrition, the more upset I grew with myself when I broke my agreements.
When it came to my diet, it felt like I was flipping channels, but never able to tune into something that worked.

One summer day my husband lent me his iPod for my evening walk. On it I heard an audio program called “Living Health” by Tony Robbins talking about the teachings of Dr. Robert Young. I found his philosophy to be shockingly simple; the body can heal itself and maintain our ideal weight if we maintain the proper pH balance in the blood.
This seemed too simple to be true, so I did some digging. I learned all I could about the subject. As it turns out, this is not a new idea. Nobel prizes were awarded decades earlier for this same basic (pun intended) concept.
When I went to hear Dr. Young Speak. At his event, I met people who had used his theories to make massive changes in their lives.
I saw morbidly obese who became fit and trim, talked with diabetics who were no longer insulin dependent, and saw people with glowing complexions who showed me photos of their former selves with confidence-killing skin conditions.
Here was the clincher for me in my frustrated, depressed state; women who had been through countless unsuccessful fertility procedures stood before me holding their babies explaining how alkalizing had enabled them to conceive.

There was one big problem, my passion for delicious cooking and my desire for vital health would be clashing like the Titans. The meal plans in Dr.Young’s books were big on broccoli, kale, avocados and nuts and very low on flavor. Not to mention a favorite ingredient of mine was on the forbidden foods list: cheese!
Luckily, at the event I met Chef Chad Sarno, he was giving a cooking demonstration on Raw Foods in which he introduced me to the concept of raw cuisine. Not only did he set me on another quest for nutritional information, this time on how enzymes in food affect health, he also told me there were raw versions of cheese!
My husband ordered every book the library had on raw foods and I reached high up on our bookcase and dusted off “RAW” by Roxanne Klien and Charlie Trotter.
Why was the book dusty? Because I had bought it a year or two prior for the gorgeous photos, and experienced ego-crushing failures trying to make a few of the more complicated dishes and I gave up.
Which brings me to the big problem I found with the raw food diet. Much of it was too difficult, time consuming and restrictive.
Where would the average person like me, find the motivation and time to makes such a commitment? Making Raw Food Cuisine needed to be easier, it needed to fit into daily life.
I set out to do 3 things;
- Incorporate alkalizing concepts into meals
. - Eat more food in its raw form

- Make recipes that are inspiring to eat because they are delicious.
Experience told me that knowing the health benefits of foods doesn’t mean that you’ll eat them. I needed to create crave-able foods I loved in order to experience improved health.
I experimented with meals that fell within the raw food and the alkalizing guidelines. I drew from my own extensive culinary repertoire.
Most importantly, I kept each meal within 10 to 15 minutes preparation time, as well as kept it simple, with as few dirty dishes as possible!
These rules removed any barriers to me actually making these foods after a long day.
It worked. I loved the foods, and I started feeling great.

My mood swings fell away, my energy levels were soaring and the more raw foods I ate the more energy I had. It felt completely alive and vibrating with energy.
My skin looked fabulous and my hair and nails were growing faster than ever.
I lost the ten pounds, but that didn’t last long… because I got pregnant after only 4 months of changing my diet. (Hooray!)
My body was operating at it’s peak. I could feel it when I woke up, during yoga, and while I worked. I just felt present, clear, and focused.
The recipes and concepts I created were published in my first book and blog, The Delicious Revolution. I made what I hoped would be a “gateway drug” to healthy eating, mixing alkalizing concepts and raw food recipes with dishes that would be considered taboo in either of these restrictive dietary communities.
My core belief was, and still is to this day, that taste has to be the motivating factor in making healthy choices.
